미로 메타 월드맵은 광주 동구 예술의 거리를 메타버스 공간에 구현하여 지역 예술가들의 작품을 디지털 콘텐츠로 전시하는 플랫폼이다. 오픈 플랫폼 스페이셜(Spatial)을 기반으로 구축된 이 가상 공간은 전 세계 어디서나 접속 가능한 3D 갤러리로, 광주의 예술적 풍경을 새로운 디지털 차원에서 탐색할 수 있도록 설계되었다.
본 플랫폼은 단순한 온라인 전시를 넘어, 예술작품을 디지털 아트로 전환하고 예술품의 유통과 소장을 가능하게 하는 확장형 예술 플랫폼으로 기능한다. 이를 통해 예술가에게는 새로운 창작의 기회를, 시민에게는 예술과 기술이 결합된 문화 체험을 제공하며, 온·오프라인이 연결된 지속 가능한 디지털 예술 생태계를 구축하고자 한다.
‘미로 메타 월드맵’은 ‘디지털 지정학(Digital Geopolitics)’의 관점에서 도시의 예술적 지형을 재구성한다. 물리적 예술 거리와 그 예술적 자산을 가상공간으로 확장함으로써, 광주 동구의 역사·예술·공공성이 디지털 세계 속에서 새로운 방식으로 배치되고 해석된다. 또한 지역 근대 예술 아카이브와 국제공모를 연계해 로컬과 글로벌을 잇는 예술 네트워크의 장으로 발전시킨다.
메타버스 전시는 세 개의 상호 연결된 공간으로 이루어져 있다. 첫 번째는 사진작가 임채욱의 무등산과 광주 풍경 시리즈를 중심으로 도시의 자연적 지형과 정서를 시각적으로 재해석한 공간, 두 번째는 근대 작가 양수아의 자화상과 미공개 작품 및 드로잉을 포함한 아카이브 공간, 세 번째는 국내외 큐레이터들의 추천작으로 구성된 ‘미로 국제 네트워크’ 전시로, 세계 각국의 예술가들이 참여하는 교류형 전시 플랫폼으로 운영된다. 이 세 공간은 각각 광주의 자연, 문화와 예술, 그리고 국제적 확장성을 상징하며, 관람자가 가상 환경 속에서 도시의 시간성과 정체성을 다층적으로 체험할 수 있도록 설계되었다.
‘미로 메타 월드맵’은 광주 동구의 예술적 기반을 디지털 환경으로 확장하여, 지역의 문화 자산을 아카이브하고 세계와 공유하는 미래지향적 예술 플랫폼이다. 본 플랫폼은 지역의 예술가와 공간, 그리고 역사적 맥락을 메타버스라는 새로운 플랫폼에서 재구성함으로써 지역 예술 생태계의 지속 가능성을 강화하고, 로컬 콘텐츠가 국제적 예술 네트워크 속에서 순환하는 구조를 제시한다. 이를 통해 광주가 지닌 예술적 가치와 도시 정체성은 디지털 아카이브의 형태로 확장되며, 새로운 세대가 참여할 수 있는 개방형 문화 생태계로 진화하고 있다.
Miro Meta World Map is a platform that recreates Gwangju Dong-gu’s Art Street in the metaverse, exhibiting the works of local artists as digital content. Built on the open platform Spatial, this virtual space takes the form of a globally accessible 3D gallery designed to explore Gwangju’s artistic landscape in a new digital dimension.
The platform goes beyond a simple online exhibition by transforming artworks into digital art, enabling their distribution and collection through digital means. It provides new creative opportunities for artists and offers citizens cultural experiences where art and technology converge, building a sustainable digital art ecosystem that connects online and offline spheres.
Miro Meta World Map reinterprets the artistic geography of the city from the perspective of Digital Geopolitics. By expanding the physical Art Street and its artistic assets into a virtual environment, the platform reconfigures Gwangju Dong-gu’s history, art, and public identity within the digital realm. It also integrates regional modern art archives with international open calls, evolving into a hub that connects local and global art networks.
The metaverse exhibition consists of three interconnected spaces. The first features photographer Lim Chae Wook’s series on Mudeungsan Mountain and Gwangju’s urban landscapes, visually reinterpreting the city’s natural and emotional topography. The second presents modern artist Yang Sooa’s self-portraits, unpublished works, and drawings in an archival format that allows visitors to experience her creative process and artistic legacy. The third, the Miro International Network exhibition, showcases works recommended by domestic and international curators, serving as a collaborative platform for artists from around the world. Together, these spaces represent Gwangju’s nature, culture and art, and international connectivity, inviting visitors to experience the city’s temporal and cultural identity through an immersive virtual environment.
Miro Meta World Map expands the artistic foundation of Gwangju Dong-gu into the digital sphere, archiving and sharing local cultural assets globally as a forward-looking art platform. By reconstructing local artists, spaces, and historical contexts within the metaverse, the platform strengthens the sustainability of the regional art ecosystem and establishes a structure in which local content circulates within international art networks. Through this process, Gwangju’s artistic values and urban identity are reimagined as a digital archive, evolving into an open cultural ecosystem that invites participation from new generations.
